Crawl Space Encapsulation in Ashland, WI

CASE STUDY

CRAWL SPACE ENCAPSULATION FOR FOUNDATION PROTECTION IN ASHLAND, WI

A homeowner in Ashland, WI, was facing serious crawl space issues including standing water, mold growth, and foundation concerns. DBS installed a CleanSpace® encapsulation system to help protect the home, improve moisture control, and create a healthier environment beneath the structure.

In Ashland, WI, we encountered a homeowner determined to preserve the integrity of her beloved home. Facing the grim reality of a failing foundation, exacerbated by standing water, mold proliferation, and hazardous knob and tube wiring, she reached out to our team. Acknowledging the seriousness of her situation, we sprang into action, utilizing our proven three-step process to address her home’s urgent needs. Initially, our Appointment Center facilitated a comprehensive home inspection appointment, setting the stage for an in-depth analysis of the crawl space issues. When our Design Specialist made their visit, they provided not just an assessment but a tailored solution designed to halt and reverse the damage. The advice was clear: installing our CleanSpace© system would effectively counteract the current dire conditions, transforming the crawl space into a dry, mold-resistant environment. Our production team, composed of skilled foremen and installers, arrived on-site with positivity and efficiency. The transformation was remarkable. They meticulously lined the crawl space with CleanSpace©, ensuring every inch was covered, effectively isolating the home from ground moisture, sealing out unwanted humidity, and removing conditions that promote mold growth. By the time we concluded our project, the initially daunting scenario of structural compromise, presents now as a testament to resilience and forward thinking. The homeowner’s once at-risk dwelling stands now on solid ground – quite literally.

June 24, 2026 Trevor, with DBS foundation, base and insulation, just completed work on my Madeline Island Cottage on Lake Superior. The work, included Excavation, shoring and replacement supports in the Crawl Space of this 1940 Lake home. I was pleased with the technology at DBS uses, and the knowledge and technical proficiency that Trevor had in doing the work. He was thorough, and listen ed carefully to my concerns. I was absolutely 100% satisfied with his work and that of his assistant Corbin. If you are in need of foundation repair in Minnesota and Wisconsin, I highly recommend DBS. Donald W Laukka, architect.

Nick and Rob from DBS stopped out to do some warranty repairs last week, specifically to spray some foam insulation in just a few areas that were missed in the original crawlspace encapsulation. They did a great job; quick and clean work. I'm quite pleased.

Showed up on the day and time they scheduled us for. Went to work right away. Finished the job in about three hours just like the quote said (not their first rodeo). Our crawl space encapsulation looks great.

Andy did a great job of showing and explaining their products and services for our crawl space encapsulation and partial basement finish. So far, we just did the crawl space encapsulation and it turned out great. Lawson and team did a great job, even did the added foam insulation around the entire basement which we had asked for so they wouldn't have to do that when doing the 2nd part of the basement. Only reason removing one star was some issues with communication around when they were scheduled to come do the work, which we got resolved pretty quickly. But, they did a great job! Thanks!

Complete Crawl Space Solutions for Minnesota Homes

Encapsulation, Drainage, Insulation & Structural Repair for Duluth, St. Cloud, Brainerd & Surrounding Counties

DBS Repair doesn’t patch crawl space problems, we permanently solve them.

From full encapsulation and moisture control to structural stabilization, our proven system is built for Minnesota homes affected by snowmelt, frozen soils, high humidity, and shifting crawl space supports.

Step 1: Minnesota crawl space encapsulation

Sealing out Minnesota moisture at the source

Encapsulation is the foundation of every lasting crawl space repair in Minnesota. By sealing the space completely from outside air and ground moisture, we eliminate the conditions that cause downstream problems in Duluth, St. Cloud, Brainerd-area, and Central Minnesota homes: mold, rot, pests, and energy loss.

Airtight vent covers block cold winter air and humid summer air from entering the crawl space
A heavy-duty vapor barrier is installed across floors and walls to stop moisture vapor transmission completely
Concrete block walls receive a mechanically attached wall covering that seals open cavities while keeping the space visible for pest inspections
The result is a clean, dry, conditioned environment, not an open underground chamber

Step 2: Minnesota crawl space drainage and waterproofing

managing snowmelt, groundwater, and storms before they become a problem

Even after encapsulation, Minnesota groundwater, spring snowmelt, and heavy rain need a controlled exit. Our interior drainage system is engineered specifically for crawl spaces in areas like St. Louis, Stearns, Sherburne, Benton, Crow Wing, and Cass County, where standard perimeter drains fail or clog.

A perimeter drainage channel is installed along the base of the walls to capture and redirect water
Dimpled drainage matting on the floor channels trapped water beneath the vapor barrier toward the sump pump
A high-capacity, automatic sump pump system ejects collected water out of the crawl space entirely
The system is clog-resistant and designed to function even during heavy rain events and flooding

Step 3: Minnesota crawl space humidity control

keeping crawl space moisture below 55% through Minnesota seasons

Sealing and draining the space removes the water, but residual humidity in the air still needs to be actively managed through Minnesota summers, spring thaw, and shoulder seasons. A properly sized, self-draining dehumidifier keeps the environment permanently inhospitable to mold, dust mites, and mildew.

An energy-efficient crawl space dehumidifier maintains relative humidity below the 55% threshold where mold growth occurs
Self-draining design eliminates the need to manually empty water reservoirs
High-performance filtration captures particles as small as 2 microns, including mold spores and allergens
Continuous operation protects air quality both in the crawl space and throughout the home above

Step 4: Minnesota crawl space insulation

replacing failing fiberglass with waterproof, cold-climate alternatives

Traditional fiberglass batt insulation is the wrong material for a Minnesota crawl space. It absorbs moisture, collapses, and ends up in useless piles on the floor. We replace it with waterproof, high-performance alternatives built for cold winters, humid summers, and damp crawl space environments.

Graphite-infused expanded polystyrene foam panels for walls deliver superior thermal resistance and include a built-in radiant heat barrier
Foam floor insulation provides a puncture-resistant thermal layer that performs on rough or uneven dirt surfaces
Waterproof access doors and entry wells replace deteriorating wood or metal crawl space entries that rot, rust, and compromise the seal
The complete insulation system works with encapsulation, not against it, to deliver year-round energy savings

Step 5: Minnesota crawl space structural repair

permanently lifting and leveling sagging floors in Minnesota homes

When moisture, frost movement, or rot has already compromised structural framing, encapsulation alone isn’t enough. Sagging floors in Minnesota homes require permanent, engineered support, not temporary props that sink and fail over time.

Heavy-duty galvanized steel crawl space jacks replace failing columns and posts that have settled into soft soil
Each support system rests on a pre-cast concrete footing set in engineered fill, engineered to resist soil movement
Support systems rated to handle vertical loads exceeding 60,000 lbs deliver confidence that the fix will last
Once installed, jacks are tightened to stop downward movement and can often restore floors to their original level position
Corrosion-resistant steel construction means no maintenance, no repainting, and no deterioration over time
