Insulation by Area of the Home

Six of the most common insulation upgrades in one place. DBS seals and insulates the attic with the SuperAttic™ system and SilverGlo™, crawl spaces with SilverGlo™ walls and TerraBlock™ floors, cold floors with foam and dense-pack cellulose, finished walls with dense-pack Tru-Soft™.

Attic Insulation

More energy is lost through the attic than anywhere else in the house. The Stack Effect pulls conditioned air out through dozens of attic gaps 24 hours a day, and simply blowing more cellulose over the floor leaves leaks around recessed lights, ductwork, and flooring.

The SuperAttic™ system uses proprietary SilverGlo™ rigid foam panels to seal and insulate directly beneath the roof rafters and inside the gable ends, creating a continuous barrier with no thermal bridging while maintaining roof ventilation. SilverGlo™ includes an integral radiant barrier for year-round savings.

Continuous insulation layer with no thermal bridging
SilverGlo™ will not shrink or lose R-value over time
Integral radiant barrier reflects heat both directions
Superior air sealing at the top of the house
Attic flooring and storage can stay in place
Excellent protection against ice damming
insulation by area of the home attic
Wisconsin Homes Losing Heat
SilverGlo™ Rigid Foam

Graphite-infused panels with a built-in radiant barrier, the core of the SuperAttic™ system; will not absorb moisture, shrink, or lose R-value.

Blown-in Cellulose

A cost-effective way to add R-value over an attic floor, best paired with air sealing so it can perform.

Spray Foam & Denim Batts

Closed-cell spray foam air seals hard-to-reach areas; denim batts offer an alternative batt material for specific spots.

Crawl Space Insulation

A crawl space sits in the dirt and soaks up the cold of the earth, chilling the floors above. The old approach, fiberglass batts between joists with the space vented to outside air, backfires: fiberglass absorbs moisture, gets soggy, compresses, loses R-value, and ends up in a heap on the floor.

DBS uses rigid foam made for the crawl space instead. Installed against the interior face of the foundation walls and taped at the joints, it air seals and insulates, brings the crawl space inside the building envelope, and warms the rooms above.

Stable and reliable: will not compress, fall, or lose R-value
Effective air sealing when panel joints are taped
Moisture-proof; will not absorb water or be damaged by it
Unfriendly to mold, with no organic food source
Better performance for ductwork in the crawl space
Same performance in 15 years as on day one
Crawl space insulation and moisture protection in Pillager, MN
High performance green spray foam insulation applied uniformly along crawl space foundation walls near Tamarack Minnesota
SilverGlo™ Rigid Foam (Walls)

Panels cut to fit against the interior foundation walls and taped at the joints to air seal and insulate without absorbing moisture.

TerraBlock™ (Floor)

Flexible rigid foam faced both sides with durable vinyl, installs over rough floors with excellent puncture and abrasion resistance.

Moisture- & Mold-Proof

Neither product absorbs water or feeds mold, so the crawl space stays dry, clean, and comfortable to work in.

Floor Insulation

Ground-level floors get cold when the space beneath them is cold and existing insulation is missing or poorly installed. As heated air escapes upstairs, heavier cold air is drawn in around lower windows and doors and from below, hugging the floor and chilling its surface.

When possible, the best fix is to insulate the crawl space or basement walls below, turning that space into a conditioned area that warms the floors above. When that is not possible, DBS Repair insulates the joist bays under the floor, paying special attention to the leak-prone rim joists.

Insulate walls below to warm the floors above
Insulate joist bays with spray foam or rigid foam
Seal and insulate rim joists, a notorious leak source
Solutions for floors over garages and bump-outs
Dense-pack cellulose for floors above garages
Always paired with whole-home air sealing
Closed-Cell Spray Foam

Seals air leaks and insulates joist bays at once, keeping the floor from losing heat to a cold basement or crawl space.

Rigid Foam Board

Moisture-proof boards for joist bays and rim joists that will not compress, sag, or lose R-value over time.

Dense-Pack Cellulose

Packs tightly into the floor structure above a garage, turning cold floors into a thing of the past.

Wall Insulation

In terms of energy performance, wall insulation is often the least of a home’s worries, not because it is unimportant, but because most homes already have insulated walls, and extra insulation is easier to add in the more accessible attic, basement, and crawl space. During a free estimate, DBS inspects wall insulation levels and, if it is missing or inadequate, recommends the right fix.

Walls are easy to insulate before drywall goes up, while studs are exposed. For finished walls, the proven technique is to drill access holes near the top of the wall and blow cellulose, often dense-packed Tru-Soft™, into the empty stud cavities.

Dense-pack cellulose blown into finished-wall cavities
Foam and rigid foam options for open or specialty walls
Eliminates voids and gaps that waste energy
Air sealing performed first for best performance
Interior and exterior wall applications
Inspection identifies missing or compressed insulation
Dense-Pack Cellulose

Tru-Soft™ cellulose packed tightly into stud cavities through small access holes, ideal for finished walls without tearing them open.

Foam & Rigid Foam

Foam wall insulation and rigid foam board for open walls and specialty assemblies that need air sealing plus high R-value.

Void-Free Results

DBS eliminates the gaps and wire-compressed spots that leave fiberglass walls underperforming.

See the Hidden Benefits of Basement Insulation!

Basement Insulation

Done right, basement insulation turns a damp, cold basement into drier, more comfortable living space, eliminates mold and humidity problems, and lowers heating and cooling costs. Fiberglass batts in the basement ceiling only insulate the floor above; they do nothing to make the basement itself comfortable.

For the walls, DBS recommends Basement to Beautiful® rigid foam panels, sized for typical basement walls with built-in wiring channels and integral steel flanges for attaching wallboard. For cold floors, ThermalDry® Insulated Floor Decking™ cannot be damaged by moisture, unlike wood subflooring.

Seal and insulate the rim joist, a major air-leak source
Insulate foundation walls with moisture-proof rigid foam
Stops cold air infiltration, mold, and mildew
Turns the basement into usable living space

June 24, 2026 Trevor, with DBS foundation, base and insulation, just completed work on my Madeline Island Cottage on Lake Superior. The work, included Excavation, shoring and replacement supports in the Crawl Space of this 1940 Lake home. I was pleased with the technology at DBS uses, and the knowledge and technical proficiency that Trevor had in doing the work. He was thorough, and listen ed carefully to my concerns. I was absolutely 100% satisfied with his work and that of his assistant Corbin. If you are in need of foundation repair in Minnesota and Wisconsin, I highly recommend DBS. Donald W Laukka, architect.

Nick and Rob from DBS stopped out to do some warranty repairs last week, specifically to spray some foam insulation in just a few areas that were missed in the original crawlspace encapsulation. They did a great job; quick and clean work. I'm quite pleased.

Thank you so very much for insulating our basement and stabilizing our basement floor. Jake did a great job of explaining what needed to be done and Westin completed the work. We are very pleased with the work done and how well they kept us informed of the project. We highly recommend DBS.

Icicles! Up and down our eaves when no one else in the neighborhood had them! We called DBS and Myke came out to do an inspection. He helped us clearly understand our problem--very old insulation and hardly any baffles--and outline our solution. Joe and Griffin did a great job with the repair! They were extremely courteous and careful in our home; and so easy to work with. I had no idea that insulation needed to be replaced, but now we aren't dreading the next cold days...as much!

We had Bryan out to perform an inspection of our attic for a few issues we were encountering. Bryan was prompt and on time. He called the day prior to the appointment to confirm the time. He inspected our insulation and attic and helped us identify another problem as well. Kudos to Bryan for being professional and personable. I would recommend Bryan to anyone looking for home inspection and repairs.
Overall great experience. They did a fantastic job of explaining all of the work. Added the different kinds of insulation in very tight areas. And the clean up was superb. Would highly recommend DBS.
It started with a busted water pipe, 200 gal of water in my basement, leading to a new found hole in my basement wall & other surprises. I researched, cried some, researched more, made calls, had a couple different companies come out. Honestly? The 1st phone conversation with Bonnie Sundberg's DBS Foundations, Basements & Insulation I had? Gave me a much needed breath of relief. The compassion & reassurance meant everything. Bo Meintz was my Specialist. He took time to answer the most outside of the box questions & concerns. And trust me, after 200 gallons of water? You question A LOT. I am thankful for Bo and his patience. His knowledge and explanations , superb! Thank you!

I had a great experience with DBS. Scheduling of the energy inspection was simple and fast. The Design Specialist, Justin, conducted a thorough energy audit. Justin was very knowledgeable, explained things at my level, and he provided all of his recommendations without at all being pushy. He communicated via text and email and responses were always timely. The cost of the insulation installation seemed to be comparable to competitors. The job was completed in a few hours and the crew cleaned the area well. I’d definitely use DBS again and would highly recommend Justin.

The DBs team came out this week to re-insulate the Patrick of our home and added insulation to our garage that never had any blown in. The crew worked very hard and cleaned up after they were done. I highly recommend their staff to help anyone with their home. I would recommend not waiting 29 years like we did.
