In this Duluth, MN home, the customer was dealing with a frustrating and damaging issue—water entering through the eaves and traveling down the wall cavity, all the way to the basement. The before photo shows an under-insulated attic that allowed moisture and air to freely enter the home. To solve the problem, we installed TruSoft™ Cellulose insulation for comprehensive coverage and added targeted Spray Foam insulation to seal air leaks and prevent water intrusion at its source. The after photo highlights a properly insulated attic, now protected against moisture and energy loss. With this upgrade, the customer no longer has to worry about water damage—and can enjoy a more comfortable, energy-efficient home.
This Duluth, MN homeowner had noticed his heating bills rising over time. This winter he decided to give DBS a call and find out where he was losing all his heat. Design Specialist, Steve Stern, visited this homeowner and provided him with a thorough inspection of his home. Upon inspection, Steve found a few areas where the home was losing heat. One of the main areas that needed to be addressed was the attic insulation, as it was old and lacking the proper depth to achieve the desired R-value. Steve proposed that DBS air-seal problem areas and fill the attic with some blown in insulation that met the proper R-value standards.

DBS Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer visited the home and provided an estimate for the attic re-insulation project. He designed a custom plan that involved removing the existing insulation, air sealing the attic, and adding new cellulose insulation.
DBS Foreman Nick Woods II led the install of this attic insulation project. After removing the insulation, the crew applied closed-cell spray foam to the attic deck, sealing gaps, cracks, and holes. From there, the homeowners plan to add cellulose insulation.
After a successful attic insulation like this one, the homeowners should expect increased comfort and reduced energy bills.
