Failing Basement Causes Basement Leaking in Mountain Iron, MN

Owners of this newly purchased Mountain Iron, MN home knew it needed a lot of help in the basement. Overtime, soil pressure had caused its foundation walls to crack and bow. The homeowners were tired of cleaning up water from the leaking foundation and were hoping to gain some more usuable space in their home.

DBS Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo went to the home and provided a inspection and estimate for the work. After visiting the home, Henrik recommended installation of a waterproofing and foundation repair system to fully protect the home.

Because this home had multiple home repair needs, it was broken up into 2 projects. Our highly-trained installers from both foundation support and waterproofing visited the home to complete the repair in their area expertise.

DBS Foreman Joe Harris and his crew installed the waterproofing system consisting of a CleanSpace® vapor barrier to stop water and a WaterGuard® subfloor french drainage system to drain water out of the home for good.

DBS Foreman Dustin Behning and crew installed 10 PowerBrace™ wall support beams to stabilize the walls and prevent any further movement. These galvanized steel I-beams will be tightened over time with the goal of restoring the wall to its original position.

The homeowners can now rest easy knowing their home is healthy, safe, and comfortable!

Cracked and Bowing Wall in Superior, WI Fixed with Wall Supports

Homeowners of this 1902 home in Superior, WI contacted DBS in need of a permanent solution for the cracking foundation walls in their basement. The horizontal cracks as seen in the before photo were causing leaking. The homeowner was tired of the water issues and wanted to protect their belongings.

DBS Design Specialist Nathan Schroeder visited the home for a free, no-obligation estimate for the best course of action. Foreman Nick Burley and his crew installed four GeoLock™ Wall Plates and Earth Anchors to the failing foundation wall. This system uses heavy-duty anchors and connects them to plates on the wall interior wall. Connected with long, galvanized rods, these anchors are tightened to straighten the wall over time and provide maximum support.

To prevent water from flooding onto the basement floor, our team installed an interior waterproofing system. This included our interior drain tile WaterGuard®, connected to a new SingleSafe™ sump pump.

The customer was happy with the work done and now has a permanent solution they can count on for years to come.

Sinking Crawl Space Lifted and Supported to Restore Chetek, WI Cabin

Owners of this 1950's cabin in Chetek, WI contacted DBS for some professional help with their crawl space. The cabin had an addition built in 2006, creating some uneven floors on the main level of the cabin. Wanting this to become a 4-season retreat for their family to enjoy, they were also interested in crawl space encapsulation and insulation.

DBS Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer visited the cabin and provided a free, no-obligation estimate of the crawl space work. Because it involved both supporting the crawl space and encapsulation, two different crews completed this work.

DBS Foreman Nick Burley and his crew first performed the crawl space foundation work. They installed 24 feet of horizontal steel support beams parallel to the dirt crawl space. Our team installed a total of 11 SmartJack® telescoping vertical beams beneath the new support beam and beneath the cabin's existing supports.

After the crawl space foundation repair was complete, our team began the crawl space encapsulation work. DBS Foreman Nick Woods II lead his crew in the installation of a total encapsulation system: a layer of drainage matting applied directly to the crawl space floor, then a layer of TerraBlock™ insulation, and finally a vapor barrier to seal the space. They also applied spray foam to the rim joists to property seal the space from cold air.

This family now has peace of mind that their cabin will stand up to Wisconsin winter temperatures.
