Inadequate and Not Air Sealed
The insulation that was being used in this home did not provide an adequate r-value needed to properly retain the conditioned air inside the home. In addition to this, the insulation was installed without properly air sealing the attic as well. The combination of this leads to a home that can often get quite cold and drafty in the winter.
More Insulation Needed!
For our service area (much of Minnesota and Wisconsin) the U.S. Department of Energy recommends between R-49 and R-60. That's at least a 16-in.-thick blanket of fiberglass insulation!
Uninsulated Roof
The roof of this home is uninsulated which is alright if the attic is properly insulated and not being used as a warm storage area. If the attic is not properly insulated, an uninsulated roof can create ice dams in the winter.
Proper Insulation Installed
After we air sealed the attic with spray foam insulation we use blow in cellulose insulation to properly insulate this attic.
Insulating the Whole Attic
The insulation we use conforms to every space of the attic which ensures a thorough insulation throughout the whole area.
