A Three-Part Crawl Space Drainage System That Actually Works
A complete crawl space drainage system requires three components working together: a perimeter drain to capture incoming water, drainage matting to channel floor water, and a sump pump to automatically eject everything collected. DBS installs all three as an integrated system.
Unlike standard drainage products adapted from basement applications, each component in the DBS crawl space drainage system is engineered specifically for crawl space conditions, including tight clearances, dirt floors, and the risk of sediment clogging.
SmartPipe™:
The Only Drain System Built for Crawl Spaces
Standard French drain pipe is not designed for crawl spaces. SmartPipe™ is a custom-engineered perimeter drain with a unique profile that collects water from three sources: the wall face, the footing-wall joint, and the crawl space floor surface. A special wall flange ensures no water escapes behind the pipe.
Every opening facing the soil is covered with a filter fabric material that allows water in while keeping mud and debris out. The result is a clog-resistant drain that will not require maintenance or replacement.
CleanSpace® Drainage Matting:
Protecting What Is Underneath the Liner
A vapor barrier liner rests directly on the crawl space floor. Without drainage matting underneath, any water that enters below the liner has no path to the perimeter drain — it pools and is trapped.
CleanSpace® Drainage Matting is a dimpled plastic sheet installed under the liner. The raised dimples create channels for water to flow freely to the perimeter drain and sump pump, even when the liner is sitting on top. For areas with heavy flooding or rough terrain, CleanSpace® Drainage Matting XL provides larger channels and extra durability.
Automatic Water Ejection with Battery Backup Protection
The sump pump is the final piece of the drainage system. Collected water flows through the SmartPipe perimeter drain to the sump pump basin, where it is automatically ejected to the exterior of the home.
DBS installs Basement Systems sump pumps with battery backup systems, ensuring continuous operation even when the power goes out — which is precisely when heavy rain and flooding are most likely to occur. A water alarm system is also included to notify the homeowner of any unexpected water entry.

What to Expect

Free on-site inspection and estimate
A DBS specialist inspects your crawl space to identify water sources, measure the perimeter, assess floor conditions, and determine the correct drainage configuration. A written estimate is presented at no obligation.

Drainage matting installation
CleanSpace® Drainage Matting is laid across the crawl space floor before the liner, creating the sub-liner water channels needed to direct floor water to the drain.
3.
SmartPipe perimeter drain installation
SmartPipe is installed along the crawl space wall perimeter, with the wall flange seated against the wall to capture all seepage from the footing and wall face.
4.
Sump pump basin and pump installation
The sump pump basin is set at the lowest point in the crawl space and connected to the SmartPipe drain. The pump and battery backup unit are installed and tested.
5.
Liner installation (if encapsulation is included)
If encapsulation is part of the project, the CleanSpace® liner is installed over the drainage matting and SmartPipe system, completing the waterproofing layer.
