Recently in Duluth, MN, a homeowner reached out to us with concerns about ongoing water intrusion and musty odors in their basement, taking a toll on their living space. As shown in the before photo, the space was damp and uninviting. Our solution? We installed our reliable WaterGuard® system and TripleSafe™ Sump Pump, alongside IceGuard® and SaniDry™ Sedona to manage moisture and ensure the air quality remains healthy. The after photo proudly displays the transformation to a clean, dry, and comfortable basement, wrapped with our CleanSpace® wall system for that final touch of protection and aesthetic. With these changes, not only is the space now usable, but it’s also safeguarded against future water problems, providing peace of mind and a remarkable change the homeowners can feel and see.
This customer was no stranger to DBS, as we had installed a new support beam and SmartJacks in their basement last year. The homeowner was ready to move on to phase two of their basement upgrade and install an egress window. Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo stopped out to see the homeowner and measured for the installation of an egress window. Forman, Kevin Steffy and his crew installed the window system and left the customer feeling happy as they were one step closer to completing their basement!
This time of year, when snow starts to melt and grounds become soaked with excess water, basement flooding can be a common problem among households. In Duluth, MN, a homeowner in the Park Point area was experiencing just this. Park Point is a hot spot for basement flooding, being right on the shores of Lake Superior. Fortunately, they reached out to DBS and a crew was able to provide a specially designed waterproofing service for Park Point homes. This included the installation of a sump pump, WaterGuard®, and the placement of dimple drainage matting. To top it off, 4 inches of fresh new concrete was poured along the basement floor to elevate the surface. The overall results turned out great, and the photos from the project can be viewed here.
These homeowners in Duluth, MN live on Park Point, a narrow strip of land that has Lake Superior on one side and the St. Louis Bay on the other. But being surrounded by water comes with its challenges. Concerned over water consistenly leaking in the basement, these homeowners knew they needed more protection for their home.
DBS Design Specialist Rich Johnsen is our expert in waterproofing and visited the home to provide a free, no-obligation estimate. He proposed our WaterGuard® IOS system that is specifically designed to deal with iron ochre, a living bacteria that is common in Park Point ground water and is known for severely clogging drain systems.
A DBS foreman and crew installed a full WaterGuard® system, that sits flush with the floor and is completely hidden, directing all water to the home's existing sump pump and a new exterior drainage line. This was combined with CleanSpace® wall poly that will ensure that if moisture collects on the foundation wall, that it will be directed to the drain system and further to a new SuperSump® sump pump.
This home is now healthy, safe, and comfortable!
