When large walls in common spaces are under-insulated it can result in major heat loss in the home. Especially when paired with large windows it is important to retain as much heat as possible to create a comfortable living environment. This customer's entire wall needed to be re-insulated using spray foam insulation which provides the highest r-value in tight spaces and has additional air sealing properties. This large wall is now an asset in this customer's home, retaining heat for a comfortable space and making the property more energy efficient.
Townhome owners in Duluth, MN are in the process of permanently re-locating to Duluth year-round but noticed the first winter that the space wasn't properly insulated. Our Dr. Energy Saver® Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer visited the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for the insulation work. Because the space shares walls with another unit, our production crew drilled holes into the drywall and dense-packed it with our ultra-dense Tru-Soft™ cellulose. This insulation is fire-resistant and has an R-value much higher than fiberglass, and most rigid foam insulations. We also seal the gaps and cracks in the utility room and side of the home that is exposed to the elements.
These homeowners can now equipped to living in Duluth year-round and maintaining a high level of comfort!

A DBS Design Specialist visited the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for the project. Upon inspection of the encapsulated crawl space, our expert determined that spray foam would be used at the rim joist of the crawl space to prevent cold air from reaching the main level of the home. Our production crew then dense packed the home's exterior walls with Tru-Soft™ cellulose providing a solid radiant barrier to stand up to winter temperatures.
Owners of this Duluth, MN home dreamt of making improvements and remodeling. With some signs of foundation settling and a wet crawl space, they knew they needed to improve the conditions beneath their home first.
DBS Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo visited the home to provide a free, no-obligation estimate for the project. He assessed the structural concerns, as well as the wet and musty crawl space. He worked with the homeowners to design a plan that would increase their year-round comfort and maintain their property value for years to come.
DBS Foreman Nick Burley lead this crawl space project. He and his team completely removed the debris and excavated dirt beneath the space and added some gravel back to encourage better drainage in the space. From there, they installed our 3-layer system for crawl space encapsulation. First, drainage matting to eliminate moisture buildup, TerraBlock™ crawl space insulation, and CleanSpace® vapor barrier. These three products work together to fully protect the crawl space and condition spaces around them from the effects of cold air and moisture.
To correct the structural issues, they installed 26 total SmartJack® support beams in order to restore the home to a level position.
From there, DBS Foreman Nick Woods II and his insulation crew sealed the crawl space vertical walls, from the floor to the rim joists with closed cell spray foam. This will stop airflow and prevent moisture from entering the space.
