Nick Woods II led the installation of this project with assistance from a crew. Together they cleaned out the old falling insulation and laid down a layer of drainage matting to assist the flow of water underneath the insulation. Panels of TerraBlock™ insulation were installed over the drainage matting to help with the conservation of heat in the winter and cool air in the summer. The last layer in the 3-step encapsulation process is installing a vapor barrier made of a thick, white poly material called CleanSpace®. The vertical walls in the crawl space were sprayed with a waterproof polyurethane spray foam to air-seal the space.

The crawl space of this cabin in Ely, MN was experiencing lots of ice dams in the winter as the snow melted off the front side. They decided to call DBS in hopes of finding an energy-efficient solution.
Design Specialist Henry Jungbauer went to the cabin to conduct a free no-obligation estimate. After a thorough inspection, Henry determined that their crawlspace was retaining a lot of heat that should have been blown into the living spaces of the home. He recommended that the owners consider spray foam insulation to solve their problem.
Foreman Nick Woods II led the installation of this project with a team. Together they cleared the old insulation from the concrete block foundation and layered the vertical walls with waterproof polyurethane spray foam. The spray foam will provide insulation for the crawl space as it expands as it is installed completely air-sealing the space.
Henry recommended that the homeowners eventually have insulation dense-packed into their roofing to keep even more heat inside of the cabin, but with the crawlspace insulation, they will notice how much warmer it is already. Now the owners will be more comfortable in their cabin for longer periods during the year.
