Rim Joist Insulation for Year-Round Comfort in Duluth, MN Home

Homeowners in Duluth, MN reached out to DBS for help insulation their partially finished basement. Their goal was to be able to use the space comfortably year-round.

A Dr. Energy Saver® Design Specialist went to the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate. They used a thermal camera to measure heat loss and air flow, finding the rim joists to be a problematic area. The solution was to install a 3" inch layer of closed-cell spray foam to insulate the rim joists. This creates an airtight connection between the rim joist and exterior,  eliminating outdoor air from entering the home.

A DBS Foreman and their production crew applied the 2-part expanding spray foam, sealing and insulating the rim joists from cold outside air. This finished basement room is now comfortable year-round!

Rim Joist Insulation for Drafty Basement in Minnetonka, MN

This Minnetonka, MN home had a waterproofing system installed by DBS. On a routine service appointment by our Service Manager Jacob Nustad-Peluso, he and the homeowner discussed the drafty basement. Cold air was coming through the rim joist area in the basement, leading to cold floors on the main level of the home.

Nick Woods II and his insulation crew used closed-cell spray foam to seal the basement rim joists. This spray foam expands once applied to close gaps and cracks, providing a solid barrier against water and airflow. Insulating the rim joists in your basement or crawl space stops airflow of both cold air in the winter and warm, humid air in the summer.

The homeowners now have a more efficient home, saving money on heating and cooling bills!

Luck, WI Crawl Space Insulation and Support to Correct Failing Foundation

This Luck, WI home had been in the family for generations. They were a few structural issues in the dirt crawl space that were causing concern, namely some shifting support beams as well as wet conditions in the space. Wanting to protect the home as much as possible against moisture and fluctuating weather year-round, they reached out to DBS about our crawl space encapsulation and support service.

Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo is an expert in energy-saving solutions and visited the home to provide a free, no-obligation estimate. Foreman Zach Jorenby lead installation of 6 SmartJack® supports to raise the sinking home supports.  Nick Woods II and his production crew installed closed-cell spray foam to better regulate temperature in the space.

The homeowner was happy with the work done, and now has a solid solution to protect their home against foundation shifting and low winter time temperatures.

Canyon, MN Cabin Insulated to Prep for Year-Round Use

This cabin in Canyon, MN was only used during the summer months. The owners were planning to transition to living there year-round, but knew they would need to winterize the cabin. Looking for a permanent solution to make their home more comfortable year-round, they reached out to DBS for a permanent solution.

Our Service Manager Jacob Nustad-Peluso was the Design Specialist for this project. He visited the home and provided a free, no-obligation estimate, inspecting the cabin's attic and crawl space. After inspecting the property and conducting an energy audit, it was determined that air sealing and blown-in insulation were necessary to effectively winterize the cabin.

DBS Foreman Nick Woods II and his crew performed the work crawl space air sealing and installed attic insulation. Our production crew first removed the existing fiberglass insulation and sealed the gaps in building material and spaces surrounding the attic ducts with a layer of closed-cell spray foam. From there, they blew-in a heavy layer of our TruSoft™ cellulose into the space. TruSoft™ has a higher R-value than fiberglass and other cellulose materials and will work wonders to protect the space.

For the crawl space, our team removed debris, and applied a MoldX2 Botanical™ to the moldy wooden support beams. From there, they used SilverGlo™ insulation on the crawl space foundation walls, and spray foam to seal the rim joists.

Sealing and insulating the crawl space and attic was key to prevent warm air from escaping the home, and improves the overall energy-efficiency and health of the space.

Crawl Space Insulation in International Falls Prevents Freezing Pipes

This International Falls home was built in the early 2000s. Although the crawl space was fit with fiberglass batting, it wasn't enough to prevent the sump pump and pipes from freezing during the winter months.

DBS Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo visited the home to provide a thorough inspection of the crawl space. He provided a free estimate for a new insulation plan including our closed-cell spray foam. The homeowners decided to move forward with the plan and our Dr. Energy Saver Team got to work!

Nick Woods II and his crew began by removing the existing fiberglass batting. From there, they applied closed cell spray foam to the vertical crawl space walls. Our foam insulation expands as it's applied, air sealing and insulating.

The homeowners were happy with the work done and now have an insulated crawl space to protect their home from cold winter temperatures.
