In Duluth, MN, a homeowner had an exciting vision to transform their half-finished basement into a cozy, functional living area, complete with a new bathroom and laundry space. Unfortunately, standing water and damp walls had other plans. The basement, once meant to be an ideal expansion for the home, had become more of a storage area for worries, as seen in the before image. Water damage and excess moisture had taken a toll on the space, preventing any further progress on the homeowner's dream renovation.
Determined to help the homeowner realize their vision, we carefully assessed the situation and implemented our industry-leading WaterGuard® and CleanSpace® systems. These solutions are designed to address the moisture issues at their source, ensuring that the basement remains dry and protected against future water intrusion. WaterGuard® was installed along the perimeter to capture and redirect water, while CleanSpace® was applied to the walls to create a moisture-proof barrier, effectively keeping the space dry and free from mold growth.
The results speak for themselves. The after photo shows the basement in its transformed state—dry, clean, and ready to be finished into the welcoming living space the homeowner had originally envisioned. With the moisture problems resolved, the homeowner can now move forward with their plans for a new bathroom and laundry area, fully confident that their investment will be protected for years to come.
This project highlights the power of the right solutions when it comes to overcoming common basement challenges. With WaterGuard® and CleanSpace®, we turned a troublesome, damp space into a dry, functional area, proving that no dream is too big when you have the right tools and expertise at your disposal.
In Hermantown, MN, a homeowner was struggling with persistent ice dams and an overall lack of energy efficiency, and they sought a lasting solution to improve their attic’s performance. As shown in the before photo, the attic had insufficient insulation, which not only contributed to the formation of ice dams but also led to heat loss and higher energy bills. The lack of proper insulation allowed warm air from the living spaces to escape, causing snow on the roof to melt and refreeze, forming dangerous ice dams in the winter months.
To address this issue, we introduced our advanced Tru-Soft™ cellulose insulation. Known for its superior performance in reducing energy loss, Tru-Soft™ cellulose was carefully installed throughout the attic, ensuring even coverage and effectively sealing gaps where heat could escape. The after photo showcases the dramatic upgrade, transforming the attic into a well-insulated, energy-efficient space that now resists the conditions that lead to ice dam formation.
With the Tru-Soft™ cellulose insulation in place, the homeowner’s attic is now much better equipped to maintain a consistent temperature year-round. Not only will they experience a more comfortable living environment, but they’ll also see a reduction in heating costs and an end to the ice dam issues that have plagued their home. Thanks to this cutting-edge insulation, the homeowner can finally enjoy a warmer, more energy-efficient home, free from the winter troubles of the past.
When a homeowner in Duluth, MN, decided it was time to enhance their basement, they were driven by a clear goal: to improve the space's appearance and, at the same time, increase their home's overall value. The existing basement walls, as captured in the "before" photo, were functional but far from the stylish, inviting environment the homeowner envisioned. While the foundation was stable, the lack of aesthetic appeal left the space feeling cold and unfinished. With plans to use the basement for more than just storage, they knew they needed a solution that would both improve the look and ensure the long-term durability of the area.
Recognizing the potential to transform the basement into a beautiful, usable living space, the homeowner turned to us for our expertise in home improvements. Before our intervention, this Duluth, MN basement was a damp and dreary space that left homeowners feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. With moisture seeping through the walls and a musty smell permeating the air, the area was far from the dry, usable space they had envisioned. The evident moisture issues, highlighted in the before photo, served as a constant reminder of the challenges they faced and the potential it held if only it could be transformed.
Recognizing the urgent need for a dependable and effective solution, the homeowners reached out to DBS Residential Solutions, where we specialize in turning problem areas into functional, beautiful spaces. Our team understood that addressing the water intrusion was critical not just for the health of the home but also for the dreams the homeowners had for this basement.
To tackle the moisture issues head-on, we employed our innovative WaterGuard® system, designed to effectively capture and direct water seepage away from the foundation. This advanced drainage system is installed along the perimeter of the basement floor, providing a reliable solution that prevents water from accumulating and causing damage. Complementing this, we installed CleanSpace®, a durable vapor barrier that lines the walls and effectively blocks moisture from entering the space. This combination of WaterGuard® and CleanSpace® is a proven method to create a dry environment, ensuring the basement is protected against future water issues.
Additionally, to further enhance the basement's protection and provide peace of mind, we incorporated the robust UltraSump™ System. This powerful sump pump is engineered to handle large volumes of water, ensuring that any excess water is swiftly removed from the basement, keeping it dry even during heavy rainfall or flooding.
The transformation is clearly showcased in the after photo. What was once a damp and uninviting space has been completely revitalized. Now, the basement stands dry, inviting, and prepped for whatever the future holds—whether that be a cozy family room, a home office, or a recreational area for entertaining guests. The light, clean appearance of the space not only enhances the overall value of the home but also offers the homeowners the freedom to utilize this area without the worry of moisture-related issues.
At DBS, this transformation exemplifies our mission: to turn home issues into foundations for dreams. We take pride in our ability to provide tailored solutions that not only address immediate concerns but also lay the groundwork for future possibilities. A homeowner in Duluth, MN, recently reached out to us with a pressing concern that could impact their plans to sell their house. They were facing the challenge of an unstable deck post supporting their cantilever, a situation that posed both safety risks and potential complications during the selling process. Eager to ensure their home was in optimal condition for future buyers, they sought to replace the temporary fix of piling insulation for stability, which was not a reliable long-term solution.
When our team arrived at the property, we conducted a thorough assessment of the situation. Recognizing the urgency of the matter, we recommended the installation of a Helical Pier, as shown in the accompanying photo gallery. This advanced solution not only provided effective stabilization for their cantilever but also addressed the root cause of the instability.
The Helical Pier installation process involves driving a helical screw deep into the soil until it reaches a stable layer, effectively transferring the load of the deck to a more secure foundation. This method ensures that the cantilever is not only stable now but will remain so for years to come, permanently alleviating any worries about future movement.
Our team worked diligently to complete the project efficiently, minimizing disruption for the homeowner. With this robust solution in place, they can move forward with confidence in their home’s structural integrity, making it more appealing to potential buyers. The successful installation of the Helical Pier not only enhances the safety and stability of their deck but also contributes significantly to the overall value of their property, ensuring a smoother sale process.
Before reaching out to us, this Duluth homeowner was grappling with a frustrating issue related to indoor air quality that significantly affected their comfort and well-being. The before photo vividly highlights their challenging situation, revealing a space that felt musty and uninviting, making it difficult to relax or enjoy their home. The presence of excess humidity and poor ventilation led to concerns about mold growth and allergens, creating an unhealthy environment for the family.
Understanding the urgency of the matter, our team at DBS was ready to provide a comprehensive solution to transform the space. We began by installing the EverLast Finished "Half Wall" Restoration Panel, which not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the area but also serves as a durable barrier against moisture. These panels are designed to resist mold and mildew, ensuring that the walls remain clean and attractive for years to come.
In addition to the wall restoration, we incorporated the Aspen Air System to improve ventilation throughout the home. This system actively filters and circulates air, effectively reducing humidity levels and removing airborne contaminants. It works seamlessly with the existing home systems to create a healthier living environment, promoting better air quality and comfort.
To further enhance the indoor air quality, we installed the SaniDry™ Sedona, an advanced dehumidification system that is compact yet powerful. This unit is specifically engineered to reduce humidity levels and maintain optimal conditions, preventing moisture-related issues such as mold and mildew. It efficiently removes excess moisture from the air, ensuring that the space remains dry and comfortable year-round.
The transformation is evident in the after photo, which showcases a cleaner, safer, and healthier space. The once musty and uninviting area has been revitalized into a bright, welcoming environment that the homeowner can enjoy with peace of mind.
We take great pride in providing a durable solution that not only addresses immediate concerns but also reflects our commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience and lasting results. At DBS, we believe that every home deserves to be a sanctuary, free from the worries of poor air quality. This project exemplifies our dedication to helping homeowners achieve a healthier living space, making it a true success story in our mission to enhance the quality of life for our clients.
This Duluth homeowner reached out to DBS after noticing uneven floors in their home. They were planning to install new flooring throughout the home and the uneven floors were causing issues for them. At DBS, we frequently encounter homeowners facing various challenges, and not long ago, we undertook a memorable project in Duluth, MN. The homeowner contacted us with a common issue: their entryway had settled, resulting in unwanted water intrusion into the basement during rainfall. This understandably raised concerns about structural integrity and the potential for long-term damage.
After the initial call to our dedicated Customer Care team, we promptly scheduled a home inspection to identify the root of the problem. One of our expert System Design Specialists conducted a thorough evaluation of the property. What we found was a challenge perfectly suited for our specialized Concrete Repair services.
To effectively address the issue, we recommended two of our premier products: PolyLevel® and NexusPro®. PolyLevel® is an innovative foam solution designed to lift and stabilize sinking concrete, making it ideal for correcting the entryway's unevenness. NexusPro® was selected to seal the joints and cracks, preventing future water intrusion and enhancing the durability of the repair—offering a comprehensive approach to a complex problem.
On the day of the repair, our experienced production team, including a foreman and skilled installers, worked diligently. They injected PolyLevel® beneath the concrete to raise it back to its original level, then expertly applied NexusPro® to seal the area. This combination of efficiency and expertise allowed us to resolve the homeowner's concerns quickly, providing peace of mind with a lasting solution to their foundation issues.
The result was strikingly positive—a well-stabilized and level entryway, ready to withstand the elements and restore the homeowner’s confidence in their property.
At DBS, we recently had the opportunity to enhance a rental property in Duluth, MN. The homeowner reached out with concerns about their crawl space, where the skirting was damaged and the interior needed urgent sealing to protect against the elements and pests. Understanding the importance of a dry and secure crawl space for both the home’s structural integrity and the wellbeing of its occupants, we responded promptly.
After the initial contact with our Customer Care team, we quickly arranged an appointment. Our System Design Specialist conducted a thorough inspection of the crawl space, revealing moisture penetration that posed a risk to the wooden structures and compromised the air quality in the rental home.
Based on this assessment, we recommended two of our top solutions: CleanSpace® and SprayFoam insulation. CleanSpace® is a durable liner that effectively keeps out moisture and pests, making the crawl space cleaner and more energy-efficient. SprayFoam insulation enhances thermal efficiency, creating a warmer floor above and helping to reduce heating costs.
Our skilled production team expertly installed these products with great attention to detail. They replaced the sagging skirting and transformed the vulnerable crawl space into a sealed, moisture-free zone. The project concluded with a thorough clean, ensuring everything was left in pristine condition.
The homeowner was thrilled with the results and now enjoys peace of mind knowing their rental property’s crawl space is not just superficially fixed but remodeled for lasting protection. This project exemplifies our mission at DBS: delivering reliable, sustainable solutions while ensuring a remarkable customer experience throughout the process.
When a homeowner in Duluth, MN, discovered water seeping into their basement, particularly around an under-stair space and a small addition with a hatch door, they knew it was time to seek professional help. They contacted us at DBS, concerned about their outdated, seemingly homemade waterproofing system and a sump pump that had seen better days. Once they reached out, our team promptly began addressing the issue.
Our initial inspection, carried out by a skilled System Design Specialist from our sales team, validated the homeowner’s concerns. The existing waterproofing system was inadequate, and the old sump pump needed replacement. To safeguard the basement against further water intrusion and ensure long-term dryness, we proposed a comprehensive solution.
Our plan was straightforward: we would remove the ineffective system and replace the outdated sump pump with a new SingleSafe™ system, designed for durability and efficiency. A key component of our strategy involved installing WaterGuard®, a system engineered to channel water effectively to the new sump pump, preventing any pooling or damage.
The homeowners prepared the area by removing stairs and storage items to provide our crew with unobstructed access for the installation. Our dedicated team from DBS, including a skilled foreman and several installers, arrived on-site. The installation process was intricate, involving careful chipping away of concrete to accommodate the new WaterGuard® system. Our team worked meticulously around the base of the stairs, creating a protective horseshoe perimeter around the small addition. This attention to detail underscores our commitment to delivering customized solutions.
As debris was cleared and the new system took shape, the homeowner’s basement was transformed into a dry and secure space, reflecting our dedication to resolving water issues with precision and expertise.
Recently, we embarked on a significant basement waterproofing project for a homeowner in Duluth, MN, who faced severe wall cracking and bowing in her forever home. This home, which also serves as an adult foster care facility, required a solution that would ensure the safety and stability of the property. The homeowner was determined to find a permanent fix that would secure both her home and the facility she operated from the basement.
Upon receiving the homeowner's call, our customer care team promptly arranged a thorough home inspection to evaluate the extent of the basement issues. Our system design specialist conducted a detailed assessment to pinpoint the root causes of the water damage and structural integrity concerns. Based on this evaluation, we proposed a comprehensive waterproofing system tailored specifically to the homeowner's needs for durability and reliability.
We began by installing the GeoLock™ Wall Anchor system, which restored unparalleled structural integrity to the home, addressing the bowing walls and providing essential support. To manage water intrusion, we incorporated WaterGuard®, a proven interior perimeter drainage system that intercepts water and directs it away from the basement. To handle the collected water efficiently, we installed the TripleSafe™ Sump Pump system, renowned for its triple-protection mechanics, ensuring that the basement remains dry under all conditions.
To combat humidity and improve the basement’s overall health, we added a SaniDry™ Sedona dehumidifier, offering superior air filtration and moisture control. We also lined the basement walls with CleanSpace® wall membrane to block moisture ingress and prevent mold growth while revitalizing the basement’s interior appearance. Given the potential for frozen discharge lines in winter, we installed IceGuard® to provide an escape route for water if ice forms.
The outcome of this comprehensive approach is clearly visible in the after photo, showcasing the remarkable transformation of the basement. The homeowner's home and foster care facility are now safer and thoroughly protected against future water-related issues. This project epitomizes our commitment to delivering reliable solutions and exceptional customer experiences, turning foundation worries into relieved smiles.
At DBS, we take pride in turning challenging home situations into success stories for homeowners across the region. A recent basement waterproofing project in Duluth, MN, perfectly exemplifies our mission to deliver outstanding services and durable solutions. Here’s how it unfolded:
The homeowner, struggling with a persistently damp basement, reached out for our assistance, eager to transform this underutilized space into a dry and functional area. After contacting our dedicated Customer Care team, we quickly arranged a thorough home inspection. Our System Design Specialist visited the property to assess the issue and confirmed the need for robust waterproofing measures.
We proposed a solution featuring our top-tier products: WaterGuard® for effective drainage, and the UltraSump™ and TripleSafe™ Sump Pump systems for superior water removal and backup protection. These systems are renowned for their ability to create dry environments in spaces that previously faced moisture problems.
Our installation team, known for their experience and commitment to cleanliness, began the work with precision. They integrated the WaterGuard®, UltraSump™, and TripleSafe™ systems into the basement efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to the homeowner’s daily life.
The results were striking. The basement was transformed into a consistently dry space, now ready for any use. This project stands as a testament to our dedicated approach, addressing the root cause with targeted solutions and exceptional craftsmanship. We left another homeowner delighted, demonstrating our commitment to enhancing homes and lives across our communities.
When a Duluth, MN homeowner contacted us about their persistently damp basement—a problem that had troubled them since they bought their home a few years ago—we knew we had a significant challenge on our hands. A recent storm had exacerbated their concerns by flooding the basement, highlighting the urgent need for a dependable solution. At DBS, addressing such issues effectively and efficiently is our specialty.
The homeowner’s initial contact with our Customer Care team led to an appointment where one of our experienced System Design Specialists conducted a thorough inspection of the basement. The diagnosis? We recommended installing our proven WaterGuard® drainage system along with the SingleSafe™ pump system—a combination designed to transform a wet, unusable space into a dry, reliable area of their home.
Our production team, including a dedicated foreman and skilled installer, Nik and Garry, promptly got to work. They carefully installed WaterGuard® around the perimeter of the basement floor to capture seepage from walls and floors, channeling it directly to the SingleSafe™ pump system. This pump system, designed for high performance, ensured the basement remained dry regardless of external conditions.
Upon completing the project, we not only left the site clean and ready for use but also provided the homeowners with the assurance that their basement issues were resolved. The result was a once damp and problematic space now transformed into a dry, comfortable area—demonstrating our commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences and durable solutions.
Imagine moving into your dream home in Duluth, MN, only to discover that your basement becomes a mini-lake every time it rains. That's precisely what happened to one homeowner who reached out to us. When they bought their house a few years ago, a minor dampness in the basement didn't seem like a significant issue until a storm turned their basement into a flooded disaster. As soon as we received the call, our Customer Care team arranged a home inspection to identify the root of the problem. Our System Design Specialist visited the home, evaluated the damage, and proposed a solution involving our reliable trio: the WaterGuard® drainage system, the CleanSpace® wall system, and the DoubleSafe™ Pump System.
Once the plan was in place, our production team began the work. We started by installing WaterGuard® around the basement's perimeter to capture any water entering through the walls. Although older homes like this one in Duluth often lack adequate external waterproofing, the WaterGuard® system effectively channels water away, safeguarding the basement's interior from damage. Next, we applied the CleanSpace® Wall System to the walls, creating a barrier that prevents moisture from penetrating the basement—essentially wrapping the interior in a waterproof layer. Finally, we installed the DoubleSafe™ Pump System, providing a robust defense against flooding. Designed to handle even the heaviest rains and equipped to operate during power outages, it ensured the basement remained dry.
With these comprehensive solutions in place, what was once a damp and flood-prone basement was transformed into a dry, usable space. The homeowner was thrilled, finally enjoying peace of mind with a basement that stayed dry and protected.
Recently, in Duluth, MN, we helped a homeowner who urgently needed a solution for uneven steps and sidewalks. Recovering from a hip replacement, she required a prompt and effective fix to make her outdoor walking areas safer and more accessible. Understanding the urgency of her situation, our team was ready to help.
The homeowner's issues were caused by settling concrete, which had led to the steps and sidewalk sinking 2-3 inches in several areas, along with unsightly cracks and gaps needing sealing. These uneven surfaces created a significant tripping hazard, particularly given the homeowner’s recent surgery.
To address these concerns, we recommended a dual-product approach: PolyLevel® for lifting and leveling the concrete, and NexusPro® for sealing cracks and joints to ensure a long-lasting repair. Our process began with a detailed inspection by a System Design Specialist from our Sales Team, who assessed the damage and crafted a customized solution to both repair the concrete and prevent future issues.
Once the homeowner approved our plan, our installation team proceeded by injecting PolyLevel® beneath the sunken slabs to gently raise them back to their original position. This high-density foam is both strong and lightweight, minimizing strain on the underlying soil. After leveling, we applied NexusPro® sealant to all joints and cracks. This flexible sealant not only improves the appearance but also prevents water from seeping under the slabs, which can lead to further settling.
The results were dramatic. The once hazardous areas were transformed into a smooth and safe path. The homeowner was delighted to have a secure and accessible outdoor space, providing her with much-needed peace of mind.
When a family moved into their new Duluth, MN, home, they soon discovered that their dream house came with an unexpected problem: uneven floors that made furniture tilt and drove them crazy. Instead of dealing with the constant hassle of shimming their furniture, they sought a permanent solution. They contacted our Customer Care team, and we quickly got to work.
A System Design Specialist from our Sales Team was dispatched to conduct a thorough inspection. The assessment revealed that the basement’s failing support structure was causing the support beams to sag and creating uneven floors. Our recommended fix was the SmartJack® XT system—an advanced support system designed to stabilize and lift sagging floor joists in basements.
Once the plan was approved, our production team, led by an experienced foreman, began the installation. They carefully placed and adjusted each SmartJack® XT to restore the floors to a level position. The process was completed smoothly with minimal disruption to the homeowners.
The results were immediate and impressive: the floors were now level, the furniture no longer required shims, and the family could fully enjoy their new home. We left the space cleaner than we found it and provided a solution that was both reliable and long-lasting. This project, like all our work at DBS, was about delivering exceptional customer service and a trustworthy solution that homeowners can rely on for years to come.

We recently had the opportunity to assist a Duluth, MN homeowner who reached out to us with concerns about growing cracks in the corner of their house. Understanding the urgency of the situation, our customer care team quickly scheduled an inspection to evaluate the damage. Our System Design Specialist discovered that the foundational issue was more severe than initially thought, posing a significant threat to the structure's integrity.
To address this concern, we recommended installing a Helical Pier system, chosen for its reliability and minimal disruption to the property. In addition, we applied SentrySeal® to seal the foundation and prevent future water intrusion, and used SilverGlo™ for enhanced insulation and moisture protection.
Our team, consisting of a foreman and skilled installers, arrived on-site with a clear plan. The process began with excavating the area around the affected portion of the foundation to allow for the precise placement of the helical piers. These piers were then drilled deep into the ground until they reached stable soil, providing a lasting solution to support the foundation.
Once the Helical Piers were installed, the corner of the house, which had initially shown distressing signs of instability, was now secure and level. The SentrySeal® application ensured that the foundation was properly sealed, and the SilverGlo™ installation added an extra layer of protection.

Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo offered a free no-obligation estimate for the homes insulation project. It was decided that closed cell SprayFoam from Dr. Energy Saver would be the best option for this home.

This closed cell foam is very dense and adds extra strength to the structure of the home. It has a higher R-value than open cell foam, varying from 6-7 inches. This means that the home will be better protected from unwanted air flow in harsh Duluth weather. This SprayFoam seals of air infiltrations and creates a moisture barrier to keep your home warm and dry in colder seasons and cool in warmer seasons.
These homeowners were happy with the project and can now continue to build their new home with confidence that they home will stay well insulated and dry.
This Duluth, MN home has living space on the attic level. As common when attics are converted into living space, the knee wall, or half wall you see in the photos, was drafty and prone to leaking cold air into the bedrooms on that level. In search of a permanent solution, the homeowners contacted DBS.
A DBS Design Specialist trained in our Dr. Energy Saver solutions, visited the family and provided a free, no-obligation estimate for the attic insulation. Our crews also dense packed the attic sides with Tru-Soft™ cellulose.
Comfort has now been restored to this family's attic level rooms.

The also used ridig foam SilverGlo™ insulation to create a new scuttle cover for the attic access, allowing now warm air from the rest of the house to escape via the attic.
To address the cold air entering into the basement, our production team sprayed the ceiling rim joists with closed-cell spray foam to ensure a full air seal was achieved. Finalling, we installed a SaniDry™ Sedona dehumidifier, ENERGY STAR® certified to pull mold and irritants out of the air.

A homeowner in Duluth, MN was in need of an upgrade to their basement waterproofing system to assist in ceasing any future basement flooding. Adding a solid basement waterproofing system is something that any homeowner should consider, whether they have experienced issues or not. This particular homeowner was looking for the right products, they reached out to DBS for help. A Design Specialist went out to the property and provided a thorough inspection of the basement. It was determined that a few different products would need to be installed in order to ensure a quality waterproofing system. First, PolyLevel® was installed to level the floors of the basement. In addition to PolyLevel®, our crew also installed our WaterGuard® French drain system along the perimeter of the basement. A homeowner in Duluth, MN was experiencing some issues with their basement which was in the process of being finished. The walls needed to be straightened out in a few spots, as they were lacking overall support. In search of a solution, they reached out to DBS and had a Design Specialist come to visit. After a thorough inspection, as well as a free, no-obligation estimate, it was determined that the walls would need to have a combination of GeoLock™ and WallDefense straps installed to provide optimal stabilization. GeoLock™ is comprised of steel anchors that are embedded below the ground on the outer portion of the wall and connected to an inner anchor using a steel rod below the ground. This creates a pulling force that works to straighten the walls and keep them supported. WallDefense works similarly as our CarbonArmor® system would. These straps are installed vertically along the wall to help keep it stabilized. The walls were already finished with drywall, so in order to successfully perform the installation, sections of the wall needed to be stripped down to the original concrete blocks. The installation was a success, and the homeowner can now enjoy a more safe and comfortable basement environment.
DBS worked on a waterproofing project in Duluth, MN that required several steps in the waterproofing process. This job required the installation of dimple drainage between old and new concrete, then we installed our TripleSafe™ sump pump system. Then we used TripleSafe™ sump liners and an UltraSump® battery back-up to keep the system pumping and maintained. We also put in a WaterWatch® alarm to make sure the basement is staying dry. The crew put in IceGuard® to prevent floods from clogged or frozen discharge lines. Our last step and the picture we’ve included shows the two discharge lines installed to bring water out of the home.
A homeowner in Duluth, MN was experiencing several issues with the basement of their home. The wood posts that were supporting the floor above were beginning to fail, causing the floor to sag. Aside from that, the home was experiencing issues with leaking water in the basement. Homes in the Park Point area are particularly susceptible to basement flooding due to rising water levels and being low to the ground. In need of a solution, the homeowner reached out to DBS. After a thorough inspection, it was determined that the homeowner would need to have several SmartJack® XL units installed to fix the sagging floors. These jacks are comprised of galvanized steel that can support massive loads, which makes them ideal for structural support. As for the waterproofing portion, DBS would have to carry out the traditional Park Point waterproofing plan. This consists of placing dimple drainage matting along the existing basement floor, then pouring a fresh new layer of concrete on top of that to elevate the surface. A TripleSafe™ sump pump was also put in place to help extract any excess water collected within the sump pit. This water would follow through a discharge line to an appropriate exterior location. The overall results of the project turned out great, and the homeowner can now enjoy a more safe and comfortable basement environment.
The Park Point area in Duluth, MN is a hot spot for basement water issues in the area, and DBS has provided many services there for several years. One particular homeowner reached out to DBS regarding the specially designed Park Point Waterproofing System. In the fall of 2018, a series of storms hit the Duluth area, and heavily effected Park Point and the homes lakeside. DBS set up a strategic system that will benefit the Park Point homes in need of waterproofing. One big component calls for raising the basement flooring a substantial amount by pouring new concrete on top of the existing material. That is exactly what the crew provided for this home, as shown in the photo attached. The crew laid a dimple draignage matting above the original floor for water and mold prevention, then proceeded to pour the fresh concrete on top of these layers. Aside from the new concrete, there are several other products that are recommended for the waterproofing system for Park Point. This can include: TripleSafe™ or SuperSump®, WaterGuard®, and SaniDry®. All are fantastic products, and ideal for any basement waterproofing system.
DBS worked on a home that was having trouble with water damage and unstable floors in their basement. The basement required a new, TripleSafe™ pump system to manage the water and DBS also installed a back-up pump system to ensure the home stays dry. We put a waterproofing system around the perimeter of the basement to keep the water out of the home. We also installed 4 inches of concrete over the existing concrete to create a stable environment without demolition of the house. The concrete slab was stabilized using PolyLevel® and NexusPro™ joint sealant before adding the drainage system to the home. This will ensure the home stays dry and the floors are stabilized to create a safe environment. Below are before and after pictures of the concrete laid in the basement.
In Duluth, MN, a homeowner was experiencing weakened structural support along their basement and garage walls. The walls needed proper stabilization in order to maintain form, and to prevent future damage to the home. In need of a solution, the homeowner reached out to DBS, and was able to have a Design Specialist come out and provide a free-no obligation estimate for the foundation service. It was decided that the home would need a considerable amount of CarbonArmor® units installed, along with two PowerBrace™ units, to effectively maintain these walls. These products work in similar ways. Both are installed vertically along a foundation wall, and provided supportive strength to the inside of the wall to ensure stability. The products are tough, powerful, and will get the job done. With the help of DBS, the homeowner can now experience a more comfortable basement and garage area.
A homeowner in Duluth, MN was experiencing an alarming issue with the roof of their home. Ice dams can be a huge problem for homes during the cold winter months. These are simply ice formations that build up along the bottom portion of a roof (near the gutters) and block the flow of water running down from the upper portion of the roof. This can cause excess water to build up and leak into the home. Fortunately, this homeowner was able to reach out to DBS regarding a solution. It was concluded that the old attic insulation would need to be removed, as it was in poor shape. Our crew would then install new spray foam insulation and air seal the attic ducts as well as the old chimney. This works to help keep cold air from moving in to the house, as well as blocks the rising heat from hitting the roof. When the heat can not reach the roof, it keeps the ice frozen at a reasonable temperature, assuring that no excess water can form at the top.
Not only did this service protect the home from further ice dam issues, but it is also an energy saving fix to a cold house.

These PowerBraces were then installed by Foreman, Casey Healy, and his crew. The customer was so pleased with the quality of work performed by DBS, they want to continue to work on improving their basement. In the next year, the homeowners are looking to finish off their basement. Knowing that the foundation walls are permanently stabilized, they want to finish the basement so they can have more usable space in their home. DBS is on the top of their list for the next project!

During the home's inspection, the inspector pointed out signs of some foundation failure on one of the basements foundation walls. The homeowner knew he had to act quickly to ensure the potential buyer wouldn't walk away from their offer. So the decision was made to call the experts at DBS. When this homeowner first met our Specialist Henrik he mentioned to Henrik that he had a problem with several sections of his concrete driveway sinking into the ground. This had caused significant differences between adjoining slabs of concrete. He wanted the problem fixed and knew Henrik would give him an exact estimate on what it would take to fix the issue. After seeing other examples of the PolyLevel system being used for several similar projects that DBS had done the homeowner was ready to become a customer of DBS. Before long, the PolyLevel crew at DBS was at this customer's home making the adjustments necessary to provide a consistent level driveway to the customer. With this project now complete DBS has created another happy customer and made another small improvement to the Duluth community.
This Duluth homeowner had troubles with mold developing in their basement due to a moist basement atmosphere. Coupled with this issue, the customer was also experiencing heat loss through the rim joist of their home. Our specialist Henrik helped educate the homeowner on the value of insulating the rim joist and maintaining a dry basement. With the information and Henrik's professional assessment of the basement, the homeowner agreed that it would be helpful to insulate the rim joists and use a dehumidifier to control the humidity issues in the basement.
The insulation we typically use in this scenario is spray foam insulation. Spray foam insulation is the most well-suited insulation for the job because it provides a high r-value in this small space and it fills in gaps in the walls to properly air seal the space. Proior to installing the insulation we used a special solution to kill the existing mold in the basement and installed our Sanidry System. The Sanidry is an incredibly powerful and efficient dehumidification system that we install for our customers all the time. It keeps the basement at a safe humidity level year round. With the old mold killed and a humidity level below 60% across the basement this homeowner should not have to worry in the future about the effects of mold. Henrik and the team at DBS have created a space that is now much more comfortable and safe for the homeowner and that is exactly why we do the work that we do!
Arlette D. main concern was that her apartment was very inconsistent in the winter, going from cold to warm. She saw our booth at the Duluth Home and Garden show and signed up to have an appointment with Ron Sundberg, our design specialist. After Ron offered the best solution to make her apartment more consistent and comfortable, our foreman Luc Bonk and his crew, went there and airsealed and insulated her attic and walls, using expanding polyurethane foam to air seal and blow in TruSoft insulation. After the attic was insulated well, they installed a David Lewis Attic access hatch cover. They also replaced 2 windows with 2 Sunrise Double-Hung windows. Then they airsealed and insulated the crawlspace using polyurethane foam, Cleanspace liner and TerraBlock insulation on the floor. To make sure the basement stays dry and the air that flows up and carries the allergens is reduced, Luc and crew installed a SaniDry Air Dehumidification System in the basement next to the sump and will drain into the sump.
