Updating a Crawl Space in Mountain Iron, MN
Challenge
Crawl spaces can often be a source of many problems and frustrations. The home in this situation had cold floors on the main level and a faint musty smell. The homeowner was aware that the crawl space may have been the source of the problem, but wanted to have a professional consultation prior to moving forward with the work. Our specialist assessed the entire crawl space and found problems with inconsistent insulation under the home and some moisture in the soil. It was determined that the moisture from the dirt was leading to the slightly musty smell in the home, and in addition to this, the lack of insulation and poorly maintained insulation created a very energy inefficient situation in the home.
Solution
To remedy this situation it was necessary to insulate the encapsulate this crawl space. To do so, we would need to lay down a dimple drainage mat, a new sump pump, Clean Space matting, rigid foam board insulation, and spray foam insulation. By using this combination of products we allow moisture and water to fit its way into the sump pump without disturbing the crawl space itself. A full insulation and encapsulation will allow this crawl space to block out the cold in the winter which will create much warmer floors for the customer and a much more efficient home.
