Foundation Repair Photo Album: Sinking Crawl Space Stabilized in Duluth, MN
The owner of this Duluth, MN home did not realize the extent of the foundation damage when they purchased the home. After noticing uneven and bouncy floors, they investigated the crawl space and noticed that most of the supports were failing. They contacted DBS for a free, no-obligation estimate for the foundation repair work.DBS Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo is an expert in stabilization and has designed countless plans to restore foundations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He visited this family retreat to provide a free, no-obligation estimate for the work. After creating a plan using our HelixPro® helical pile system, along with a SmartJack® stabilization system, our production team started the work.DBS Foreman Jose Valenzuela led the installation of helical piers to restore and lift this home. Our team dri=ove 3 helical piers into the ground total to transfer the weight of the home to stable soil. DBS uses zinc-coated steel piers that are twisted deep into the ground using hydraulic pressure until the piers reached weight-bearing soil. This ensures permanent stabilization without further movement, despite freezing and thawing of the sediment below. From there, Foreman Nick Burley and his team tackled the stabilization in the crawl space beneath the home. They installed around 50 feet of supplemental steel beams, along with 6 vertical supports from our SmartJack® support system. This home is now permanently stabilized and the owners can rest easy knowing that they have solid protection against movement for years to come!

Helical Piers Installed in All Weather
Despite rain and muddy conditions, our foundation support team was able to drive 3 piers into the ground to support this foundation.
Helical Piers Transfer Weight to Stable Soil
Helical piers twist as they are driven into the ground. Our team uses hydraulic pressure gauges to determine when the piers have met stable soil.
Supplemental Support Beams
This home needed additional horizontal support in order for our helical piers to lift and support the structure.
Poured SmartJack footings for added support
Our team poured 3 footings to create a solid base for the small, but mighty SmartJacks beams.
