Foundation Repair Photo Album: Boat House Foundation Repaired Over Water in Ely, Minnesota

When a structure built over a lake has issues with the foundation and needs to be repaired with a permanent solution there are not many (if any!) contractors who could confidently take on such a job. Fortunately, with the permanent foundation solutions that DBS offers and a little can-do attitude, DBS has become proficient in creating permanent foundations in many tricky situations. We have worked on top of lakes in numerous circumstances and this time we found ourselves at a boat house in Ely, Minnesota.  This boat house was built in 1961 and suffered extensive damage after the extreme weather experience in Minnesota in July when hurricane force winds wiped out thousands of trees and damaged property across Minnesota. Some of the footings of buildings needed to be fixed, but under the circumstances, a temporary solution was not allowed. Fortunately, the owner found DBS Residential Solutions online and asked if we could handle this tricky situation.  We knew our solutions would qualify as the permanent solution that the customer had needed and the only question was the timing on when we could put our proposed solution, 28 Helical Piers, into place. With the heavy equipment needed to install the piers our production manager decided it would be most appropriate to wait until the ice had frozen over enough to get our mini excavator (which was needed to drill the piers down deep into the earth) onto the ice safely. We stayed in touch with the customer throughout the winter to measure the ice depths and with the cold temperatures in the 2016-2017 winter we were able to get the work scheduled for the first few weeks of February.  Our crew worked diligently to install the piers and create a permanently stable foundation for the boathouse.
