Cracks and Moisture
This foundation wall was suffering from extensive cracking and had evidence of moisture coming through the wall. The white powdery material on the wall is caused by minerals in the walls being brought to the surface when moisture passes through the wall.
Patched Cracks
The wall shows areas where the blocks are an unusual distance apart from each other and there seems to be newer concrete added between blocks. To us this shows that these were potentially large cracked areas that a previous homeowner had attempted to patch in order to maintain the wall. Unfortunately, a fix like this acts only as a bandage and does not address the root problem.
Bowing Walls Only Worsen
This wall is clearly cracked and has begun to bow. A wall like this will only get worse with time and should be properly assessed as soon as possible.
Foundation Cracks Continued
We see another wide crack here. These types of foundation problems can lead to structural instability, but they can also allow outside air and water to enter the basement.
Inspect the Whole Basement
For our specialists to correctly address the problem they take a look at the entire basement instead of just the specific problem area. This allows us to provide a permanent solution that addresses the root cause of the problem.
Many Considerations
The specialist takes into account the many different obstacles involved with each job. If an external dig up is not the optimal solution we must look at the logistics of working from this inside. In this instance the product to be installed requires access to the floor joists. Our production crew needs to know there is a way to properly implement the solution.
Water Coming through the Wall
The white chalky material that gathers along brick walls is caused when moisture coming through the walls picks up minerals from inside the blocks. This indicates to us that the homeowner may want to consider waterproofing and our SaniDry dehumidifier in their basement.
Foundation Stabilized
Using PowerBraces we were able to permanently stabilize this foundation.
Getting Creative with a Versatile Solution
The versatility of the products we install allows us to make the most out of all situations. Optimally, it would be best if the floor joists were butted up against the foundation wall, but as you see here we can make a proper solution work under many different circumstances.
Foundation Wall Secured
This bowing wall will no longer be offered the opportunity to move further and collapse. With this solution in place the homeowner has peace of mind in a secure foundation wall.
Working Around Obstacles
We make sure to choose the right foundation repair solution to work around what the situation offers. Our specialist knew that there was a window installed in this foundation wall and made sure that the spacing between PowerBraces would produce a structurally sound result without interfering with the present window.
Secured to the Floor
For proper foundation support we make sure the PowerBraces are stable at the top and bottom of the wall. Having this steel beam largely immobile means the foundation wall will not be able to make further inward movement.
Tightening The PowerBrace into Place
We tighten the PowerBrace into place using a special torque wrench to get a strong hold on the foundation wall.
