Dirt Crawlspace Transformation in Duluth, MN
Challenge
We were called out to visit a home that had a small, dirty, poorly insulated crawlspace that was beginning to affect the rest of their home. The dirt griound was letting in moisture and musty smells that would evaporate into the air and seep through the floor, making the rest of the house cooler and smellier. The edges of the crawlspace were about 3 feet high, but the center had been left undug, giving the guys only a foot of space between the ground and the ceiling. In the center there was (and still is) a large boulder, which we were unable to remove do to the size of the rock.
Solution
We started the project off by digging the center of the crawlspace. The guys were able to remove the dirt and level out the floor of the area, giving it an even 3 foot head room.
After removing the dirt we laid dimple drainage matting and CleanSpace throughout the crawlspace, seperating the dirt ground from the rest of the house. The dimple drainage matting will prevent any moisture from building up underneath the CleanSpace liner by creating space for the water to flow out and into the drainage system. The CleanSpace liner seperates the ground air from the home, dramatically reducing humidity in the air. This liner also brightens up the crawlspace and turns it into a great storage space!
