SmartJack® Crawl Space Support in Herbster, WI
Challenge
A homeowner reached out DBS regarding a crawl space issue they were having for their lake home in Herbster, WI. The home was built on clay pads, and the supporting beams within the crawl space had sunk into the clay base. The space was needing some form of support to help mitigate any further settling within the clay below the surface of the home. DBS sent out Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo to inspect the property and provide a free, no-obligation for the crawl space repair. It was concluded that the crawl space would need to have the SmartJack® System installed to help stabilize the crawl space and prevent future settlement.
Solution
Before the crew could install the SmartJack® System, they needed to pour concrete footings to hold the jacks in place. These footings were poured above ground, and each jack is placed centered within the footing. Once that was finished, it was time for the crew to start supporting the crawl space. The SmartJack® System is a crawl space stabilizer comprised of galvanized steel support jacks that help strengthen failing structures. These jacks are adjustable and able to fit in even the tightest of crawl spaces, while also being able to support vertical loads of up to 60,000 pounds. In many instances, homeowners notice an immediate difference in their sagging floors after the installation of the SmartJack® System, as was the case with this home. The individual was very pleased with the installation process and how well the SmartJack® System worked to stabilize the crawl space.
