Crawl Space Repair in Highbridge, WI
Challenge
This Highbridge, WI customer called DBS to get an estimate on possible work that needed to be done in her crawl space. She wasn’t sure of the extent of work that needed to be done but knew she needed to have an expert out to inspect it. DBS sent Design Specialist, Ron Sundberg, out to give the initial inspection.
Upon his inspection, he found many problems under her home but was confident in DBS’s ability to fix it. First, he looked at the overall structural support in the crawl space. He found that the weight of the home was not being properly supported as many of the original supports had broken down over time. Also, the main wood support beam needed to be replaced as mold and rot had worn down the beam. Additionally, he found a lot of mold and moisture present. Lastly, he found the home was lacking any insulation, which would account for the frozen pipes in the winter months.
Solution
Our solution was to first stabilize the structure. We would do this by installing a new supplemental beam and replace the old wood, rotting one. Then we would dig and pour cast-in-place footings for 13 new supports. The SmartJack supports would be installed and properly spaced to ensure the weight of the home was evenly distributed.
Once the home was stabilized, we would move on to installing our CleanSpace, a crawls space encapsulation product. This thick poly layer would help prevent mold and reduce any odors from penetrating into the home. It would also help to prevent excess moisture from the bare ground from rotting any wooden surface. The installation of a SaniDry CX would aid in removing any excess moisture from the space as well.
Lastly, the home would be insulated using spray foam. This foam insulation would ensure that the homeowner's pipes wouldn’t freeze in the winter months. Additionally, it would allow the homeowner to be more comfortable in her home throughout the winter.
The end result would be that this customer would have a safer, healthier and more comfortable home to live in for a long time.
