Challenge
A homeowner in Hermantown, MN called reached out to DBS to discuss the basement of their home. The area was constructed with concrete block walls and concrete flooring. This can be troublesome as the material starts to age. Cracking and shifting movements are issues that can occur over time with this type of foundation, which can ultimately lead to unwanted outdoor materials accessing the interior. In need of a solution, the homeowner had a Design Specialist visit the property, and provide a free, no-obligation estimate for the waterproofing service. While this was the main concern, the home also had a crawl space that the owner was looking to fix up with insulation and waterproofing. This made for a large project with many materials. Fortunately, DBS was well equipped to solve the problem.
Solution
In order to achieve maximum efficiency from a basement waterproofing system, several products must be installed, and done so in the right spots. For this particular project, the basement would require a total of 78 ft. of CleanSpace® wall covering to be installed, which acts as a barrier between outside materials (such as water) and the interior portion of the basement. Aside from the, 170 ft. of WaterGuard® would also be installed along the perimeter of the basement. This is a multi-step installation process, as the crew starts by breaking up the old concrete flooring to gain access to the surface below. Once that is completed, the WaterGuard® system is installed, which acts as a catching and draining system for leaking water. This is ran to a TripleSafe™ sump pump, which was also installed to extract the unwanted water to an appropriate exterior location. The combination of these three products create the ideal basement waterproofing system. As for the crawl space of the home, the small area would have CleanSpace® installed as well as a small portion of spray foam insulation. All in all, the big project turned out to be a success, and the homeowner can now enjoy a more clean, dry, and comfortable living space.
