Park Point Basement Avoids Flooding in Duluth, MN
Challenge
A homeowner in Duluth, MN reached out to DBS with a challenge that can carry many issues for your home -- basement flooding. Not only can this damage your belongings and create a mess, but it can also cause potential health issues down the road. Recently, the Duluth area (especially Park Point) has been hit with elevated water levels and flooding due to a series of storms. Many homeowners have experienced water pushing through their foundation and leaking into their basements.
Design specialist Henrik Makitalo went out to visit and provide a free, no-obligation estimate for this project. With no prior waterproofing done or sump pump installed, DBS was up for the task to help ensure a more comfortable basement for this Park Point home. Luckily, the issue was addressed much before the recent storms hit.
Solution
Our crew went in to the home eager to solve the problem, and keep the basement free from any leaking water from there on out. First things first, any structural issues were to be addressed. Before a waterproofing job can take place, it is crucial for the foundation of the home to be strong and stable. The crew then installed a TripleSafe™ Sump Pump. The pump is installed within the foundation in a sealed sump pit, which collects the unwanted water and allows for it to be pumped back out. After placing the sump pump, the installation of WaterGuard® XL around the basement perimeter came next. This is a drainage system which is used to catch any wall seepage so it never hits the floor.
After the first few products were installed, the crew then laid Dimple Drainage matting over the existing floor. This matting provides a water/mold resistant layer to the floor. Once the surface area of the basement floor was covered, an outdoor IceGuard® was installed on the exterior discharge sump line. The IceGuard® is designed to protect the outdoor pipes from the freezing winters. If the pipe underground does freeze, water can still be pumped without any worry of backups! The discharge line ran below the surface of the yard to allow the sump water to be discharged in an appropriate area. Our crew went in and poured 4000 lbs. of fiber reinforced concrete slab over the Dimple Drainage matting to add an extra level to the basement floor. This concluded the project for DBS. By choosing this waterproofing service, the home is now protected from any future water leakage or flooding, providing a more comfortable and safe area!
