Air Sealing Photo Album: Rim Joists Insulated in Duluth, MN Home for Year-Round Comfort
Homeowners in Duluth, MN were having moisture and insulation issues in their unfinished basement. After meeting DBS at the Duluth Home Show, they decided to schedule a free, no-obligation estimate with our Dr. Energy Saver® team.
DBS Design Specialist Henrik Makitalo visited the home and provided a thorough inspection and estimate. He used a thermal camera to measure heat loss and air flow, finding the rim joists to be a problematic area. The solution was to install a 3" inch layer of closed-cell spray foam to insulate the rim joists. This creates an airtight connection between the rim joist and exterior, eliminating outdoor air from entering the home. A DBS Foreman and their production crew applied the 2-part expanding spray foam, sealing and insulating the rim joists from cold outside air. This finished basement room is now comfortable year-round!
Basement Window Before Spray Foam
When completing an energy audit in the basement, our team used a thermal camera to track lots of heat loss to this window. Once sealed by our team, it will be protected year-round.
Closed-Cell Sprayfoam Installed in Duluth, MN
Closed-cell spray foam is best for our northern climate. Structurally speaking, it is designed to keep cold air and moisture at bay down to the molecular level.
Air Sealed and Insulated Duluth, MN Basement
Our team applied 3 inches of spray foam to these basement rim joists in order to prevent the cycle of cold air entering the space and warm air escaping.
Spray Foam Can Reach Tight Spaces
Our team is trained to thoroughly apply spray foam to even the tightest spaces with a clean and controlled application.
