Owner Bonnie Sundberg Reflects on Successes Leading to Award

After starting DBS Residential Solutions in 2012 Owner and President Bonnie Sundberg worked hard to establish her company in Duluth and her hard work and determination did not go unnoticed for long. In 2015, after three years of success and challenges faced by many women-owned construction companies, Bonnie was recognized with the Joel Labovitz Entrepreneurial Success Award for Emerging Entrepreneur. 

Now, years after the award was received, Bonnie has had a chance to reflect on what helped her achieve such an award and what has aided her in overcoming further challenges in the years since 2015. Her reflections were recorded recently in a local news article leading up to the 2017 Labovitz Awards. 

"I think success means that you have a company or a business where your employees love their work, they love their job and therefore they are the best people out there to help. If your employees are happy, and they're well trained and have a purpose, have the vision, mission, and values of the company they also hold as their own, they'll give everybody and anybody you help the best service."

At DBS we use different systems to create success in each individual department and this is no different than the business as a whole. 

"I have a system, where I see the business as a machine, with different departments as gears," Sundberg said. "If each gear runs smoothly, the next one will as well, like a car."

Bonnie's system has helped DBS grow substantially in the past year alone with nearly 100% growth in employment between March of 2016 and March of 2017. As an inspiration to other women-owned businesses, Bonnie hopes to provide advice that can be taken to heart and easily implemented. 

"Find a system that will work for your business, from marketing all the way down to your customer getting the best service possible. I think anyone can succeed if they follow it."

The passion Bonnie has for her business is certainly felt throughout the organization and with employees modeling themselves after this passion and enthusiasm and following the systems in place we are not surprised to have seen the successes in our business that we have. We understand there will always be challenges, but with fantastic leadership and a vision of "A world where everyone lives in a healthy, safe, and comfortable home" we know we will continue to achieve success.
